Community Involvement

The Children's Garden is an active and devoted participant in the community.  By partnering with various groups and organizations who share a common vision, we are more effectively able to help address the issues and needs of children in our community and communities abroad.  By working together, we can make a difference.

Plan Canada - Sponsorship Program in Peru

Plan Canada is an international, humanitarian, child-centred development organization that is committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of children, their families and their communities.  With the help of sponsors like the Children's Garden, they are making life-changing improvements and building long-term solutions to over 45 of the world's poorest countries. For more information please visit www.plancanada.ca

Our involvement

The Children's Garden is proud to be a part of Plan Canada's continued commitment in Peru where we currently sponsor a 4 year old girl. Our monthly donation helps provide support to her, her family and the community she lives in. The children at our centre have the opportunity to build a relationship with our sponsored child by exchanging letters and pictures with her in the mail and by receiving regular updates and progress reports. More information and pictures of our sponsored child are available at the centre.

Basic services Plan Canada provides in Peru are as follows:

  • water and sanitation
  • waste disposal
  • transportation
  • electricity
  • recreation
  • communication
  • education
  • health
  • housing

Our commitment to helping children in our community:

Food Drive

As part of International Food Day, The Children's Garden takes part in an annual food drive. We collect food donations from our families as an initiative to support our local food bank. Every little bit helps.

Terry Fox Walk

Each September, The Children's Garden participates in the Terry Fox Walk in an effort to raise awareness of Terry Fox and his marathon of hope. To date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name through the annual Terry Fox Run.  We are proud to be a part of such an inspirational and important event.

Our annual walk is a non-competitive event where preschoolers and their families raise money in Terry’s name. It is a day of celebrating Terry’s legacy and helping to keep his dream of a cure for cancer alive. For more information, please visit www.terryfoxrun.org

Classrooms Care - Scholastic Canada

The Children's Garden is a strong supporter of the Classrooms Care program run by Scholastic Canada.

Right here in Canada there are plenty of boys and girls who don't have any books in their schools. Classrooms across Canada have the power to change that! ClassroomsCare is a special reading program that empowers students to read and make a difference.

Every spring, our centre gets involved. When our class reads 100 books, Scholastic Canada donates 100 books to kids who need them.  The donation is made in honour of our class with the help of Scholastic's Literacy Partners. For more information please visit www.scholastic.ca
