Establishing good eating habits at a very young age is a great way to teach your child to make smart food choices later on. The Children's Garden provides nutritious foods that promote optimal growth and help maintain good health.
-
Foods will be prepared in a variety of ways to help cater to individual likes and dislikes. Imitation, tasty choices and fun presentation are key motivators to encourage children to eat healthy foods.
-
Snacks help provide the nourishment for an active day and the energy often needed between meals. 2 snacks will be provided at regular times each day. Healthy snack choices, such as homemade muffins, granola bars, fruit, veggies & dip, applesauce, fresh frozen pops, and yogurt will be supplied. These nutritious snacks will serve as a valuable supplement to their lunch.
-
Prepackaged foods (which are often high in calories and low in nutrients) will be used sparingly. Junk food and treats will be limited and used only for special occasions. Balance and moderation will be reinforced by helping your child understand that some foods, such as fruit are important everyday foods, and other foods such as cookies are occasional treats.
-
Once a month we will have a pizza day. This is a special treat for your child.
-
During the warmer months, your child will have the opportunity to plant veggies and/or fruits in the children's garden. Each child will have the chance to grow food and learn where the food comes from. Then they will have the pleasure of eating their specially grown foods for snack or lunch time.
Lunch Menus will be posted in the centre for parents to view. This allows you to know and prepare in advance if there may be any concerns for your child (allergies, personal dislikes). If you feel your child might not like a particular meal, you are free to pack him/her an alternative lunch.
